Speeding Concerns
20th of July, 2023
Speeding concerns and other highway related issues have been raised at recent Parish Council meetings. The concerns have been forwarded to Lancashire County Council as Highway Authority.
As a result of the issues raised, LCC have confirmed that they will repaint the rumble strips which have faded to nothing on Button Street and they will also refresh the Give Way signs at Inglewhite crossroads.
LCC will not erect a STOP sign instead of a GIVE WAY sign because they will only consider a stop sign where sight lines are so restricted that the junction becomes hazardous, and the vehicle is forced to come to a halt. LCC do not believe this to be the case at this junction.
In response to a request to install more 20mph zones, LCC have replied that speed limits should be set to a level where they are self-enforcing and they would not consider reducing other roads to this speed limit unless there is a road safety concern.
To illustrate that there is a safety concern, the Parish Council invited police representatives to the July meeting and requested local speed checks. Residents can accompany them on the checks by contacting PCSO Chloe Pearson by email at 7078@lancashire.police.uk. Alternatively, residents can register to volunteer with the Community Road Watch scheme - using this link https://lancsvp.org.uk/opportunities/community-road-watch/
The Parish Council are also hoping to erect temporary Speed Indicator Devices (SPIDs) at 2 locations in the Parish to capture data to illustrate the extent of the problems.
If you believe there is a road safety concern in Goosnargh, please help us to resolve the issue by reporting it on this link. https://lancsroadsafety.co.uk/submit-concern/
Further to a meeting with Andy Pratt the Deputy Police Crime Commissioner, we have been asked to promote 'Operation Snap' a police initiative which encourages members of the public to send dashcam footage of dangerous driving or other motoring offences to the police.
More information can be found on the link below. If you have any comments or concerns about the initiative please email commissioner@lancashire-pcc.gov.uk
